Is it Winter Yet?

I know that much of North America is being blasted by blizzards, but, apart from a couple of thunder showers earlier this month, it’s been so sunny and warm here on the Oregon coast you’d think it’s summer, except for the lack of flowers.  I’m beginning to worry that we might have our winter in the summertime this year.  It’s very pleasant to be outdoors, though.

In the photo below I just wanted to take a picture of Wally and LuLu in front of our newly painted deck furniture.  They seem to think they’re being scolded if I tell them to sit when I don’t have a treat in my hand.  Notice how they won’t look at me and they’ve got the sad eyes thing going on.  I took one quick photo and then released them from their misery.

Rich thought he would try and help.  He captured LuLu, but she doesn’t look much happier here:

Feels like summer, but looks like winter.  Here’s Wally striking his typical pose.  I must have a million pictures of him like this, as though I’ve taken just one photo of Wally and Photoshopped it onto different backgrounds.

We call this a Field and Stream photo:

And finally, a mess o’ puppies, worn out after a good long run on a feels-like-summer day:

Stretchy, stretchy:

2013 was our driest year on record, and 2014 isn’t shaping up much better so far.  All those winter ponds that Wally and LuLu love to play in are drying up.  Gardens need water.  Wildfires are burning.  And there’s still no rain of any significance in the forecast.  Know any rain dances?  We could sure use one!  Have a happy week!

  3. Love these photos, Leslie! It's nice to know that pups can act like teens too! The weather here has been anything but summer-like. We have had record-cold temps, severe wind chills and as much snowfall to date as we usually get for the season. Seems like "extreme" is the word that best describes the weather all over!

  4. Oh how I love when you share pics of Wally & Lulu. Those sad eyes just pull at your heart strings don't they?
Love the colours of your furniture! The weather has been very strange this year, I pray that you get rain soon. I know what you mean when you say you need the rain for your ponds and streams and everything else nature relies on it for. Last year our winter was very mild, hardly any snow to speak of, and our streams and small ponds in our parks were all dried up, come spring and into the summer. That shouldn't be the case for us this year, we just had another blast of snow and lots of drifting.

  5. Leslie, Your deck furniture looks great with the new paint job! And of course, I love the pics of Lulu and Wally. It's so funny, they do look extremely sad in the first pic. Thanks for sharing!! Hope you get some rain soon. Here in Jersey it is FREEZING…. below zero with the wind chill.

  6. My fav is the two of them streched out on the couch..... Love that!!! But the out side shots are Beautiful...
Now that Deck furniture is so Clean and Fresh looking just asking to be used, and lucky you have the weather for it... Here in Fl it's be a bit cold for us, in the 20 and 30 at night and 40 and 60 daytime...but not much rain here. Our weather man keeps saying how much rain we got but it's not on our little patch of heaven. I'll try my rain dance and see if it works long distance, but so far it hasent done a thing for me.

  7. Wish I could ship some of our snow to you! I had to move a bunch of it today using a wheelbarrow. I LOVE the photos of Wally and LuLu, but especially love the ones of them on the couch! Oh my, they do know how to relax. And who could resist giving those bellies a scratch?

  8. They are so expressive. There is poetry in those soulful eyes. It makes me smile every time. Wish I could conk out like they do after exercise. Would make a great ad for some mattress company. Lucky puppies.
Your furniture is gorgeous. Terrific colours and great workmanship. Lastly, I'm sending rainy/snowy weather vibes in your direction. Hope they arrive soon. It's lovely. cold and snowy here in Montreal. Great winter weather. No kidding... I like it.

  9. Thanks for the pictures, Leslie. I'm glad someone is having nice weather! It's pretty nasty here. It's been a long winter and it's still January! Enjoy.

  11. I want to be sitting on your beautiful deck basking in the sun & giving puppy hugs to brighten up those sad eyes! At 10:30 in the morning here, it is still 1 below zero. I didn't check the wind chill. The news said we were going to get 33 below last night. We have missed the snow again & are in the same fix you are! We are about 15 inches BELOW normal precipitation this winter. Which if fine with me since I don't have to shovel it then, but it's going to be a hard summer for crops & yards if we don't get something! Enjoy your sun!

  12. I know it sounds nice to have such warm temps already but it sounds like that isn't helping your water situation, sure hope you can get some relief so there will be less worry about wild fires. I just love the pic of them all stretched out on the sofa, too cute!!

  13. Loved seeing your beautiful weather and the fur babies!! I had to forward this to my daughter as there is no school today and thought the kids would get a laugh out of Wally and Lulu stretched out...so darn cute and funny how they sleep!! It is snowing and almost below zero as I write this..wish I could send you some of the wetness we have here, but we had a drought last summer, so all this snow will soak into the ground eventually and we need it...I enjoyed your fun post todat!!

  14. Wonderful pictures of the kids! Love seeing them and always wish I could get a good nuzzle. Your porch furniture looks terrific! I can't send you any rain but I have some bitter cold temperatures I'd like to part with!

  15. Awww...they are so cute, Leslie. I giggled all the way through your album today!! Your deck furniture is really cute, by the way. My husband just recently "retired," and we are feeling our way. I am spending more time stamping, and he is organizing long forgotten corners of his man cave in the basement. But I am loving knowing he is near and we will be starting some new projects soon, I suspect.

  17. Oh yes, two very tired fur babies. I hope you get rain soon Leslie. If I could, I would send you some....I'm quite sure we don't want what they are predicting we'll get from this latest severe weather warning. lol

  19. Oh they do look a bit "contrite" in that first photo. Such woebegone expressions. Love Wally's Field & Stream shot but my favorite is the two of them lounging on the couch. How adorable! We have not had bad weather here but not much sunshine and I am so missing that.
