Just Checking In

Hello, there!  We are now four weeks post surgery and it seems Wally is doing beautifully, but the surgery vet will be the one to judge when Wally has his radiograph and exam at eight weeks.  In the photo below, Wally and LuLu are getting ready to go for a walk.  No, Wally is not being impolite.  That's his security spot.  I think he associates putting his harness on with going to the vet.  He hates going to the vet.  LuLu loves her harness and all that's associated with it, including going to the vet.  Here she's being sympathetic with Wally's feelings.

Wally is supposed to go for three to five 10 minute leash walks per day.  We judge how many walks he takes by how much time he's spent that day walking around the yard.  When we're outside, Wally and LuLu are outside following us everywhere.

Once we're out walking, Wally is perfectly happy with it.  We could tell they were getting bored with the same old walk, though, so now at least once a day we drive to a different spot for our walk.  New smells, new excitement.  Even though the walks are only 10 minutes, it sometimes seems like we're constantly out walking the dogs.

Just thought I'd share this photo, too.  We don't see a praying mantis here very often.  He/she would be a marvel of camouflage on a leafy plant, but here on the back of the house... not so much.

Hope your weekend is off to a good start.  I'm enjoying the approach of fall with cooler mornings, warm days, a different quality to the light -- all dappled and sparkly.  Some days feel like summer and some feel like fall.  I love it all.  Have a good day!

  2. I feel sorry for Wally if that's his reaction to going to the vet . Brady hates going to the vet too, until we are actually there . Once we get into a room he is a happy camper because he will get attention from two new people ! It looks like he is healing wonderfully . You guys are good parents driving them to new places so they won't be bored ! The things we do for our babies ! But they are worth every minute of it !! Give them both an extra hug from me !

  5. We covet mantises here, Leslie, and I have not seen one for a long while. We also used to have hundreds of lady bugs to eat all the ickies, and they have disappeared - not a good thing in Florida!

Wally looks great, and I like his safe spot LOL - they are crazy, aren't they?

Thanks for sharing the good news, and the wonderful photos! xo

  7. So good to see Wally and Lulu. Wally looks so happy to be up and about. Awesome picture of the praying mantis. Suppose to cool down starting tomorrow with northerly winds, so it will feel fallish around here. I'll take it over the heat we had this summer! Thanks for the update, I always love seeing and hearing about their daily ventures.

  8. Wally has a nice big smile and wagging tale. Lulu just wants to get going..I think! TFS the update on Wally and your praying mantis. Denny found one about a week ago. It was our 1st time except years ago when we bought a little bag of praying mantis that we put in the house and we came home from work to find hatched mantis's everywhere...crazy! We are enjoying Fall too. It was 46 yesterday a.m. and 91 for a high. Today it was 46 and 81...much better.

Happy Fall my friend. Hugs, Nancy

  10. Glad to hear he keeps improving, wow that many 10 minute walks I can see how it must feel that is all your doing.
Cool pic of the praying mantis, we have had a few here that Greg took pics of, but that really stands out well on the house. We got up to 91 today and I am so done with those temps, especially cause we finally got around to mowing today and it had to be the hottest day this week, looks like we will be going down into the lower 80's in a couple days :)
