Just Checking In

It's been a while.  Typical me with too many projects and plans, but then something always falls by the wayside.  Well, before I let things go too far I thought I'd pop in for a Saturday "hello" here on Goldens and Garden.

It's winter, so there's only so much we can do outside between rain showers.  Below is a December 2018 morning as seen from my kitchen doorway.

Next:  Wally thinks biggest is best.

In an otherwise bleak landscape these Pampas Grass plumes, though nearly spent, show silvery beauty against a welcome blue sky.

I'll be off and running again like LuLu, below.  Something about the new year and having Christmas behind me...

We need to plan a trip, even if just overnight down the coast.  Why are hair, doctor, and car appointments always on sunny days?  Wet dogs in an RV aren't such a good thing.  For the time being I've got plenty to keep me occupied indoors, and we'll get out when we can.  Is there any such thing as "nothing to do"?  Have a happy day!

  1. Oh such lovely photos Leslie. Wally & Lulu are so into their element when they are outdoors, love the silvery pampus grass against the blue sky -very striking, and the way the light is filtering through the trees in early morning, a wonderful start to a new day! I'm with you about the appt thing, always on a beautiful day. Nothing to do? is that such a thing! LOL. Thanks for sharing today Leslie, great post to see first thing with my cup of coffee. We are in for a major snowstorm and bitterly cold this weekend. It started snowing about 4ish this morning, and snow into Sunday. Tommorrow will feel like -20C or -4F, staying indoors for sure! Have a wonderful week.

  2. Wally is certainly gorgeous and gets more so with age! I envy you living where you do! Our ground is still covered in a blanket of white from last weeks 4.5 inches of snow. And yesterday we had freezing rain all day! So I'll be staying home all day. Except for going out to shovel the half inch of snow that fell last night! Yuk!! I can't wait for winter to be over!!

  3. I always enjoy your photos of nature and the fur babies. They look very professional and could be in a magazine. We have Winter this weekend. Hahaha! Just the weekend. It's very windy and temps have dropped. It'll warm up again next week.

  5. Wow Gorgeous pics, it is the same here, when Greg is working it is nice day when he is off it is terrible, and this weekend, very cold, below freezing for the highs, with high winds.
I can only imagine a wet dog in an RV isn't the best, good luck in getting a nice day to get away :)

  6. Glorious photos - both beautiful and fun, Miss Leslie! It's so ironic that you have wet winters, and that is (supposedly) our dry season. This year we have above average temps for a few days, and then a front comes through bringing all sorts of thunderstorms and wind, and then we have below average temps for a few days, and then the cycle starts all over! Azaleas were trying to bloom in December instead of March. Caladium bulbs are trying to grow in January instead of May. A few struggling annuals have become perineals as long as I keep them watered and covered from frost. The pollinators emerge on the warm days, confused that there is not much to eat, and then go back to hibernate. The wildlife doesn't know what's happening. A good note - After Hurricane Irma, our Oak Hammock went into trauma - no acorns that winter, and no new leaves in the spring - most of the birds disappeared, too. But the birds are back en masse! It took about 12 months for them to return, and now, 18 months later, they are beyond prolific. We cannot keep up with their feed! Still no acorns this winter. Hopefully next winter? Lots of animals depend on them. Last winter I supplemented with raw peanuts, but not this year. We put a mineral block out for the deer in the bottom pasture.

The morning shot from your kitchen is exquisite! Only Mother Nature can be so amazing. I truly stand in awe! The Blood Moon will be here tomorrow night. It's supposed to be in the 20s so I'm not positive I'll brave it out at 2AM - but you never know! LOL I still marvel at nature far more than anything else. How miraculous it all is, and the development of life, our planet, and just EVERYTHING!

Glad Wally and Lulu are enjoying themselves. Our GSD is much too finicky to jumped into water, and way too "sophisticated" to play ball or chase after toys. Wish we could have had him from a puppy so we could have taught him to play - he's comparatively playful from when we got him, but he's not your normal puppy-doggie in that regard. Wishing you a fantastic week-end, Leslie - guess I shared a bit much LOL xx

  7. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures! I love the morning shot from your kitchen - so stunning! It's nice to see some pictures without snow in them. I used to love it more but not so much lately. I'm sure Wally and Lulu are anxiously waiting for another get away as well! Hopefully it will come soon for you.

  11. What a fabulous view!!!weather and wet doesn't bother the dog we should maybe take a leaf out of their book and satisfy the soul instead of the body dictating--just read a very enlightening piece on this today !!!

  16. You live on the edge of the "wild" evidently.... ;-) That action shot of Wally is wonderful. What is it about dogs and big sticks? Our kids' "Chloe" was pretty much restricted to the house and work (she's a therapy dog at the counseling service where our DIL works), so we didn't get to see her play. I know she misses the trips to Thousand Acres east of Portland or even to the river beneath the Sellwood Bridge. The move to Hillsboro has really restricted her activity, although there's a dog park somewhere in the area. Our son took her one day so she could get some real exercise. (We stayed home with the sleeping granddaughter.)

  17. The light shining through the trees is gorgeous. God sure does know how to create perfect pictures. Glad the puppies are having some time to run and enjoy what nice weather you have. Hopefully the rain chills out a bit.

  18. To answer your last question - I'm afraid not. As much as I love your cards, I love your photography! Light that softens it's surroundings as it moves with the sun. What a beautiful first photo! Of course Wally and Lulu are alway a favorite for me. They love being outside and you can see the joy on their faces when they are. I know you and Rich enjoy your time outside too. This has been an incredibly wet year in SC so I feel your pain on those in between days. Stay dry and warm my friend - Hugs, Susie ~
