For such a pretty little girl, LuLu sure does get stinky behind the ears sometimes. Not in her ears, but behind them. I had LuLu’s ears checked at her last vet visit and she was found to be clean and free of infection. So I did a little research and learned that it’s most likely pond bacteria thriving in the warm, damp environment of her thick fur after a swim and a nap. The ear area is particularly susceptible and a dog with a heavy double coat like a Golden Retriever can even develop a fungal infection if left too damp for too long. Well, we can’t have that, can we?
So after a recent swim LuLu got a shampoo and a blow dry. I’ve never blow dried a dog before and wasn’t sure how she’d tolerate it, but she was very cooperative. As you can see, Rich did the blow drying while I took the pictures. “I’m ready for my close up Mr. DeMille. . .”
Mmm, she smells good! Happy Saturday!
I always knew you and Rich were exemplary parents to Wally and LuLu, but this post and accompanying photos are proof perfect. What wonderful shots! My Scottie dog used to have similar issues behind her ears, but neither the Jack Russell or the Dachshund have ever experienced this. Your dogs are so beautiful. Makes me want to bury my nose in their soft fur and inhale deeply!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the way he has her "held" between his legs.....but she looks content...and after having 3 Goldens I can relate to the ear issue.....we live on a creek..right outside our door...so last summer we grabbed a couple of chairs and let Nellie in the creek one hot July day...we got great pleasure watching her clean out the creek of everything she could find, that is until she developed some pretty bad ears...a trip (costly) to the vet, and now she is grounded from creek water...poor baby..lol!!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww, so cute. Wally and Lulu are so blessed to have you in their lives taking such good care of them. Such a little thing like cleaning behind their ears, but so important to their well being and good health. Glad I don't have to deal with that with my little kitties. They wouldn't be so calm. ;)
ReplyDeleteAwe, she is so pretty! I did not know about that either. Good thing you figured that out. :)
ReplyDeleteMy golden LOVES to be blown dry. Years ago, one day after my shower, and after her bath, I was blowing my hair dry. She was laying on the floor next to me, and I pointed the blow dryer down at her. Next thing I knew, she was all four paws up wanting me to continue blow drying her belly. So, now after most every bath, she gets blown dry....did I say how much she LOVES it??
ReplyDeleteAdorable pics of Lulu...she's such a cutey!
Oh, bless her furry heart! I'm sure pond water is a culprit for all SORTS of potential problems. Glad she doesn't mind the blow dryer. I'm interested to hear how she enjoys the blow dryer now that it'll be part of her life after swims. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeletePeanut has that problem too, the vet gave me shampoo to use on her and said to try and dry her thoroughly, peanut doesn't like the drying!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - what a gorgeous girl you have!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy heart is melting!! She sits so nice for Daddy!! What a sweetie!!
ReplyDeleteLuLu cooperate well with the blow dryer and it looks like hubby did a
ReplyDeletegreat job. And, you take the most beautiful pictures of your babies -
LuLu is just plain beautiful!!
Ha! My first doggie used to stand and enjoy the nice warm air, and my current doggie looks at me and runs! Lulu did well!

Oh goodness, I'm glad I don't have a pond, we struggle with infections too often for that too! Gorgeous and wonderful picture of LuLu!

ReplyDeleteNo we certainly can't have Lulu with an infection. So pleased you've found the problem. Lulu is just soooo cute. Where was Wally while all this was going on? Wanting a bath and blowdry too?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad LuLu loves the dryer. My daughter's cat INSISTS she be blown with the dryer every morning. She loves it. Aren't they funny? I've no doubt Wally thinks she is beautiful too!
ReplyDeleteOh my...so silky shiny and smells nice too :-) TFS
ReplyDeleteI used to groom and it is surprising how few dogs are bothered by the blow dryer. I love the little waves Goldens get after they get wet, then dry off, especially by the ears. So adorable.
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures! I love how Lulu is looking up at you adoringly while you take her picture!
ReplyDeleteYou are such responsible and loving pet owners. So glad your reasearch paid off.
ReplyDeleteLulu looks adorable. I love the little "crimpy" part on her ears. I bet it's soft.
How cute is that! Magazine cover material. Both of them.
ReplyDeleteAwww.... what a sweetheart. Just makes you smile.
ReplyDeleteLeslie you are a wonderful story teller and photographer. Thanks for adding a smile to my day.
