Warm and Cozy
We’ve had our first fire of the season. The pellet stove has been serviced and we’re ready for come what may as the cooler weather approaches. I anticipate this change with the same enthusiasm as I feel for spring when its time comes. There will be beautiful days and dreary days, but any day is good when I’m home with my family.
I’ve spent this past week on a staycation. I honestly have no desire to venture far from home. After 30 years on the job, very stressful at times, it means more to me than anything to simply enjoy the quiet. Monday morning I’ll be back in the middle of a pile of work I can’t finish before the end of the day, and all the while I’ll be surrounded by a cacophony of ringing phones, multiple simultaneous conversations, babies crying, questions coming at me from all directions. . . I’m so ready to retire, but that’s not in the picture for a few years yet. Today I’ll enjoy the peace of home and hearth and stock up on enough Wally and LuLu love to see me through that first day back at work. I hope you have a good day, as well. Love to you!

Enjoy your quiet. We will be in the air today with our co-pilot flying us to southern Illinois just for fun.
ReplyDeleteLeslie, I hear what your saying. When I'm off work for vacation, if we are not traveling, I'm a stay at home kind of gal as well. I love being home, tinkering around the house and just sitting and relaxing and taking in the beauty that surrounds my home. I was on vacation a week a go, and it was hard to get back into work, and your right, stuff piles up and impossible to finish it in a day, I'm still digging out. Sometimes you wonder is it really worth taking time off to come back to what we face, but we all need a break! Enjoy the weekend, and good luck on Monday as you delve yourself back into your work. Thanks for sharing pics of your precious beautiful babies!
ReplyDeleteOh what a Perfect picture with Wally and LuLu....
ReplyDeleteI'm retired now but can relate completely with your description of the work, pressures, timelines, and the God Awful phones ringing non-stop. We just didn't' have the babies crying, not sure if I could have taken that too.... Now when I look back I do not miss it not ONE little bit, and so glad I was able to retire when I did. Hang in there and Retire as Soon As You Can!!! You will be surprised what you do not need anymore and how that saves you money for other things.
I've always wanted a home with a fireplace, but they are few here in the deep South. It probably wouldn't get much use. I can relate to your work situation. Would love to be retired and have time to play more with my stamps, digis, and inks. One day -- sigh!
ReplyDeleteThey look so content in front of the fire... glad you were able to have some time off and just relax, enjoy the weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the work and retirement thoughts! I'm in a similar situation and have a few years to go as well before I can fully retire. We have a Labradoodle and I totally relate to you and your 'kids'. On weekend mornings, before 6am, the doggie and I sit outside - I drink my coffee while he sits beside me and we watch the sunrise. It's always my 'recharge' time. Leslie, I just thoroughly enjoy your pictures, your cards, and your comments. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture, Leslie - so relaxing! No fires for us yet here in Minnesota. Yesterday it was 85 degrees! Amazing!!! We now have two gas fireplaces and we love them. Your week off sounds heavenly. Sorry to hear about your stressful job and the fact that it will be a while before retirement. We're hoping Jim can retire in about a year and a half. Hope your weekend is awesome and that next week will be fine:)
ReplyDeleteLook at those gorgeous, shiny, shimmery puppies! They certainly are beautiful, Leslie, and so is your fire! I cannot even imagine a fire right now. We have finally dropped into the upper 80s here. Probably no fire here until December or January. Staycations are the best! (I'm on a permanent staycation LOL). Isn't it marvelous to say, "there's no place like home" and really mean it? Now I know why there have been more beautiful creations on your blog this week! love ya bunches, Miss Leslie - give Lulu and Wally a pet down their sleek, silky coats. hugs, de
ReplyDeleteGlad you had some quiet time this week and have some furry loves while doing just that. Enjoy these days until you do get to retire.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got out of the rat face for a bit. I retired when the rats started winning and can heartily recommend retirement. Love the photo. I hadn't realized how luxurious Wally and Lulu's coats are, Perhaps a diet of good food, grooming, exercise and love. I guess we all thrive on that, eh? Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe are SO alike! I don't have much desire to travel far from home either. I just cherish the days I can spend relaxing at home. And if I had your beautiful yard I don't think I would ever leave the house! Not to mention the fur babies! I know what you mean about going back to work & dreading it. Been there! Many times! As of Monday though, I am actually retiring. Which leaves me emotionally all over the place, both dreading & looking forward to it. You hang in there! Your retirement will come faster than you know it & you will have that extra time to play too!
ReplyDeleteWell Wally and Lulu certainly look warm and cozy by that fire. I bet you enjoy just spending quality time with them. I know how work stress can get to you. Thankfully I've not had to work for several years now even though it's meant hubby's had to work extra hard to pay bills. I'm very lucky to be able to stay home and not worry about the hassle's of working.
ReplyDeleteWally and Lulu and the fire behind...what a picture perfect Christmas card! I know what you mean about staying around the house. Sometimes that's all I want to do. I too, have been working the same type of job for 30 plus years....I'm 63, and wish I could retire too. But insurance costs being what they are, it's not in the cards quite yet. And darn it, I only want to stamp stamp stamp! I don't even want to clean my house anymore (wel not as thorough anyway). Some day Leslie...some day we can retire. You can garden, watch thoe gorgeous babies in front of the fire, and yes, even hubby may be able to relax more. Ahhhh... Thanks so much for brightening my day! Hugs
ReplyDeleteSuch serenity!
ReplyDeleteOh Leslie, I'm sorry, I can't bear to think of having a fire at the moment. It's as dry as a bone here and sooooo hot. The irrigation has started here on the cane farms. We need rain very badly. High fire danger too. Enjoy your days off with Wally and Lulu.
ReplyDeleteMy partner and i absolutely must think much more in that direction and find out what i can do regarding this.

What a great picture! Everyone looks very content! We put our fireplace on last week and today it was back to the air-conditioning! Crazy weather we're having! Enjoy your peaceful time!
ReplyDeleteHome is so very important to me as well. Vacationing is lovely, but my favorite place is right here, surrounded by my family and my stuff. :)
