Just thought you'd like to know.
Wally's had trouble with his left knee since he was about four months old. Scared the dickens out of me the first time we came home from a romp in The Great Outdoors and he could barely get up after his nap. I was certain it indicated hip dysplasia, my worst fear. That's about the time it shows up if it's going to, from what I've heard.
Although he seemed fully recovered by the next morning, I took him to the vet for an exam and x-rays and found out his knee joint was a little loose. No evidence of hip dysplasia. Whew! However, I was told his condition would probably worsen over time and he'd eventually have to have surgery. Well, that time has come.
Halfway into his last run his knee went past the point of no return and he's not been able to put weight on it ever since. He's been referred to a specialist and is scheduled for surgery next Thursday.
Don't let the photo above fool you, though. It makes him look like an old dog, but at seven years young, Wally is very much just a big puppy. He wants to wrestle and run and play and can't figure out why there's no longer any morning and evening bouncy ball. Honestly, I'm glad the day for surgery has come while he's still got the spirit of youth in him.
Things have been pretty quiet around here. No silly stuff, Wally. Sorry. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your time and your positive thoughts.
Aw, I am sorry sweetie Wally must endure surgery, but grateful something can be done to enable her m tp enjoy his active lifestyle. Has the vet suggested how long Wally will require immobility? Poor LuLu will be perplexed and worry for him until he is back to normal. Sending healing thoughts and get well prayers, love de
ReplyDeleteSigh... I wrote my comment and it disappeared! Hoping dear Wally is soon up and at 'em without pain! Lulu will be perplexed and anxious, and Wally will be confused and wonder what he did to deserve this! Don't you wish we could whisper sweet assurances to them for understanding? Sending healing thoughts and get well prayers, and a gentle hug for Wally's mom. Love, de

ReplyDeleteLeslie,
ReplyDeleteMy dog had a similar surgery and was good as new afterward. Best wishes for you and Wally. Hope he is romping around very soon.
It breaks my heart that Wally has to undergo surgery but I know he will be better than new once it is over . I have already started prayers for him and will continue until he is recovered . Our fur babies are just like children and we worry about them just as much . Maybe even more because they are so dependent on us . I know he will have you guys and Lulu nursing him back to health and lots and lots of prayers . Try not to worry! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteIf ever there was a dog in good shape for surgery it's Wally. All your care and play have made him strong and resilient. He'll bounce back like the good athlete he is. My thoughts will be with him all the way.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, poor Wally. I know he will sail thru his surgery and recovery because of all the exercise and good health care he has had all his life. Still, my heart goes out to him and his family. I'll be thinking of you all. Hugs, Linda
