First up is my Mother's Day rose, which I photograph most every year. It's my only rose, a gift from my son a few years ago. I put it in a pot in the fenced-in back yard so the deer couldn't get to it.
The same with this Astilbe which is just coming into full bloom. It was originally out front in a garden bed, but imagine my dismay when the deer chomped it down. It's safe now.
The abundant Alstromeria has interesting markings, pretty color hues, and all those cute curlicues sprouting from the bloom centers.
You didn't think I could let this post go by without Wally and LuLu, did you? Awwww, could that not soften the hardest of hearts? Brighten the darkest of days? Turn the deepest frown into a smile? Dang.
These guys... sigh... Have a happy day!
Chuckling here. Your writing style is fun to read, Leslie. I would have been devastated to cultivate that beautiful Astilbe, only to have the deer strip it! Our deer won’t approach the house. The graze out in the pasture. So grateful to have seen the Astilbe. It’s new to me and has such an intriguing spike of neon color emerging from the pretty green foliage. Isn’t Mother Nature incredibly diverse? Love your MD rose in buttery yellow. Roses don’t grow here due to the combination of alkaline soil and humidity. Every night I used to check my roses, spraying the black spot, turning the soil, fertilizing with a Black Cow. Is that company even still in business? Can’t buy roses from nurseries here. I wonder if a container grown rose bush would survive here, since the soil could be more easily managed. Maybe I will experiment. Do you cut your bush back to force a few months of dormancy? Thanks for sharing your wonderful meandering pathways through Miller Park. hugs, de

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your beautiful photos. We don't have much deer around here but some must have found our garden. We have wire around the plants but they had fun with the pepper and tomatoe plants. That is a definite calendar shot of Wally and Lulu!

Your gardens are stunning, I love the Astilbe, the colour is so pretty and vibrant and so tall. Mine never get that tall, they must love where they are planted, looks like you have a lot of shade in that area. I agree with Bobbi, I love walking through your garden, it looks so tranquil! Oh and of course I can't forget about your babies, what a beautiful picture of them Leslie, they sure do put a smile on someone's face. Thanks so much for sharing these today.
