Beating the Heat

Are you ready for some cooler weather?  I am.  Living here on the Oregon coast I don’t say that often, but I’m a lightweight when it comes to heat and it’s been unusually warm and humid for the past month.  LuLu’s paw is all healed up now and we’ve been giving the dogs a chance to beat the heat whenever possible.  They’re in the shallows here, but there’s also a nice deep swimming hole at this spot.  You can bet we were right in there cooling off with the dogs.

Of course, there’s always the baby pool for a quick backyard cool down.  Not quite the journey of discovery as a trip to the swimming hole, but they still enjoy it.

Wally loves the toweling off almost as much as the getting wet.

All fluffed up and it looks like LuLu’s ready for a nap.  See those sleepy eyes.  She doesn’t have Wally’s stamina by a long shot.

I hope you’re enjoying these last days of summer.  They’ll be gone soon enough and we’ll be hunkering down for winter.  Take good care, and I’ll see you again soon.

  4. Beautiful pictures Leslie. Wally and Lulu look so refreshed after their cool down. I'm with Lulu, I think I could use a nap as well, they look so adorable, I could just hug them both. Thanks for sharing.

  5. I'm always so delighted when there is a post from you on my dashboard. Wonderful photos, as usual. You're so good to Wally and LuLu. It's supposed to be 99 one day this week. Stayed at 80 all night last night. I really don't want summer to end. Except it does mean we head to Washington in a month for 3 months!

  6. Hi Leslie. Live the great pictures of Lulu and Wally's last summer hurrah! We didn't have much of a summer here in NY. I am just hoping that winter is kind to us too!

  7. Looks like everyone enjoyed the time at the Shallows playing in the water. So cute. You've been having weather like we do throughout the summer. I don't like the cold so much, but I'll be glad to be rid of the humidity. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Oh I love these shots of Wally and Lulu cooling off! And boy oh boy do I agree with you about the humidity. I can take the dry heat of the southwest, but ... the humidity of the east and southeast - ugh! We just got home Saturday night from Charleston, SC and a visit with friends in North Carolina. I0 days as a tourist in humidity was to much for me. I love the low country - just love it, but our air conditioning bill would enormous!! Wally and Lulu have the right idea ~ when it gets HOT go swimming : ) I'm so glad Lulu's paw is healed. You're a good mama, Leslie. Those types of injury can be difficult to heal. And BTW: The house looks wonderful in that beautiful sunny yellow. Rich did such a good job. Now, come visit with me and help me get my front garden together : ) Enjoy these cooler days of late summer/early fall.

  13. We are having the same horrid heat & humidity in Iowa. You can barely breathe outside. Thank heavens for air conditioning! Although that water did look REALLY fun! Thanks for letting us go along on the outing!

  16. So good to hear Lulu's foot has healed and she can get out there and have fun with Wally. Peanut hates getting towel dried, she also doesn't care to get wet either :)

  20. Sweet photos! They look like they're having a ball. So pleased that LuLu's paw has healed. When one of the family hurts, the whole family hurts. Glad it's over. I sure won't miss the hot, humid and hazy weather we've endured. September is a refreshing release from those three H days. The leaves are just beginning to turn colour. Wow! Can't wait for more.

  21. Oh they are just so darn cute. I want to hug the screen each time. ;-) Looks like they had a grand time at the swim hole. Ranger loves to be dried with a towel as well its rather cute. Glad you got a few hot days and are enjoying it. Very glad to hear that LuLu's paw has healed, yea!!!

  22. I so enjoy your pics & stories of your 2 beautiful dogs. Wish my 2 would hold still like Wally for their toweling off, but they tug & pull & carry on like crazy! Thanks for the smiles.

  23. Your babies are really true water doggies! Our new boy, Scooby (we adopted him from local shelter this past May)loves water play too! We turn on the sprinkle system and he goes crazy, bites at the water, jumps at the spray coming out of the heads, and needless to say we all end up wet. It sure is great to have a big brown dog in our backyard again...he is a joy!

  24. Thanks for sharing your fun day at the water hole(s), Leslie - looks like lots of fun! It is hot here, too, and I've been enjoying the pool - will jump in for the day as soon as I finish this note to you, dear friend. How is Lulu's paw? Must be nearly well by now, and it hasn't held her back too much. Our German Shepherd enjoys his "fluff" routine as well, and we go through it every morning since the dew is so thick here! Your photos are fun. Hopefully, you will take your doggy photos and former blog posts to submit for a book. Dog owners would love it. hugs, de
