Into the Woods

While we're all enjoying the turning leaves of the beautiful fall season, the color in this pine forest is timeless.  The ground turns from snowy white in the winter to lush green in spring to golden brown in late summer and fall, but the rusty red of the tree bark remains the same.  Location:  Ochoco National Forest in central Oregon.

Next photo below... Is that not the most interesting bark with pretty texture and color?  Gee, I just realized it reminds me of a chocolate crackle cookie...

Next...

Wait, what??  The picture above is a Cottonwood in the South Fork RV Park in Dayville, Oregon.  No tree was harmed in the making of this smile.  Sometimes Nature and Mankind get along beautifully.

Take care, and have a happy day!

  1. I'd be on the road every day if I had this much beauty so close to my house! What a gorgeous place to recharge your batteries and get in sync with nature!

  2. Love these trees! Our southern pines don't usually get much bigger around than 3 feet in diameter. The bark is grayer than the pretty chocolate red in these, but the bark looks the same. However, I imagine we have different "critters" living just under the bark than you do. This pine forest is amazing! Diane, do you enjoy feeling so "blessed/lucky" to be alive when you walk through such lovely forests? Every time I walk outside and see the oaks and pines, every time I watch the tall tree tops swaying in the strong winds, every time I see the gentle kiss of wind blowing through the dangling Spanish Moss -- I marvel -- that I am alive and a small part of this world! Thanks for sharing your adventures. xx

  3. So gorgeous. I'm amazed and awed looking at all of god's creations. And to think, it was all created for us to enjoy. How many of us really do that? You are so blessed to live in an area that is so gorgeous.

  11. Fabulous, beautiful pictures of those amazing pine forests Leslie, the bark on that tree totally reminded me of chocolate cookies that come out of the oven cracked like that. I love the little bit of moss on those little branches, so beautiful and the fun, smiling tree made me smile too.
Thank you for sharing, my dear.

  15. Oh I would love to walk in that forest... I visited many when I had my dogs and I miss it but somehow it's just not the same without a faithful four legged friend.
