The Next Project on the List

Hello!  I hope you all had a beautiful Christmas and are now enjoying a deep, refreshing breath of contentment as life returns to a more normal pace.  As much as I enjoy the holidays I’m always happy for a fresh start afterward.  I’m still in the winding down phase, but this little thing called vacation is helping with the decompressing process.

Today I thought I’d share a little peek at what’s been keeping my retired Rich busy since the house painting project.  This started back in September when he sanded off the deck paint to return it to a natural wood finish.  You can see my poor, tired flower pots and our ever-present companions in the background.

I remember what an unnaturally hot and humid spell we were having at that time.  Even with their heavy coats Wally and LuLu handled it better than I did.

After the sanding the deck got a coat of rain repellant.

Next came the painting of the deck furniture.  This photo was taken yesterday on the back deck which will be refinished later.  The blue and white bench is pretty, but that’s just the first coat.

I wanted something colorful.  I can’t wait to fill the deck with flowers come springtime.

There’s nothing but sunshine and temps in the 50’s forecast for the weekend and I hope to get outside for a little garden clean up.  The worst of our winter weather is yet to come, but the next thing you know the crocus and daffodils will be popping up and I’d like them to have a tidy environment when the time comes.  Enjoy your weekend!

  1. Wow Leslie, your husband is really going to town with the paintbrush! If he needs more, let me know, I've got plenty! Love the deck chair and table!

  2. Leslie, (I'm envious) just looking at your pictures makes me want to get outside and dig around in the gardens, but unfortunately we have snow, and lots more to come, so no chance of that for a while. We are suppose to hit a high of 39 but actually feels like 32 - just a tad too cold. Love the bright coloured furniture. So looking forward to seeing more of Rich's renovations - he does wonders with that paint brush! Enjoy your warm weekend.

  6. A beautiful post on this cold (but sunny) day in Michigan! I LOVE your furniture, and how fun to use the colors you have chosen, such pretty and happy colors. You make me "itch" to get outside.....only 3 more months and I can do that. so that being said, I am "tweaking" the inside of my house the next 3 months, getting a bit brave with color in this old log house, we'll see!!

  7. Lucky girl! It is going to be 51 for a high today, then 5 for the low tonight. It looks like we will be getting more snow over the next few days.

  8. I would so love to do that on our deck, we accidentally bought a colored stain one year that came out like a paint almost, anyway from then on it has had a couple more coats and I just don't like the color at all. Don't you just love these unexpected warmer temps, we are told that it will be getting colder tomorrow so today is our last day of the 50's. Love the bright color of your furniture!!

  9. My goodness, Rich does extraordinary work. The deck and furniture are simply beautiful. No doubt this would have been difficult without the 8-legged supervisory team. I understand Santa would welcome Rich's able hands during the off season at his North Pole workshop. Who wouldn't?

Temperatures in the 50's eh? I just did a quick calculation from our real thermometer, Celsius (oh stop, I'm kidding) and we're basking in the warmth of 36 degrees F. This is a welcome change from pre-Xmas when we had an Arctic blast of -22 F as our high for a few days, with a wind chill of... well we won't go there. It was cold, take my word. Again, I'm in love with your deck and furniture and I'll bet you can't wait until spring. Understandably so.

  11. Leslie, thanks so much for sharing not only Rich's handiwork, but your beautiful babies and your beautiful gardens. I'm in Arizona, so the high today is 70...perfect gardening weather. But I'm inside working, which is way past due anyway. I love the colors of your chair and table...so cheerful! And I agree with everyone else, if Rich needs more to do, I may just have some things handy.... Retirement isn't really retirement....it's just another way of getting things done that we couldn't do when we were working, right?
Happy New Year and Bless you all! Hugs!~

  12. Oh, I'm really enjoying looking at all those gorgeous summer photos! After a record high of 62 here today, we are now going down to below zero tonite (with snow) and wind advisory for tonite & tomorrow. We have already had gusts of 61 mph tonite & the wind chill is going to be in the twenties BELOW zero tomorrow! Brady & I are going to hunker down! I'll have to keep pulling your blog up to remind me it won't last forever & we WILL see sunny skies & warm weather again!

  17. Leslie, I dream of 50's. We had it for two days then we were plunged back into the freezer with snow. I guess this is proof that I will have to retire somewhere south of where I am now. Thanks for sharing you little part of the world with us. Blessings, Sue

  18. I so wish for the warm 50's!! More snow is expected here soon with freezing temps so I'm going to finally pick up my craft room and keep warm. I love the colors you used on your porch furniture - so cheerful! I pointed out to my husband that he's not the only one kept busy! Just wanted to wish you and yours a Happy New Year!!
