Road Trip!

So... I mentioned we traded our trailer in on a motorhome and went on another trip.  It was a good, old-fashioned road trip -- we had a route planned, but no reservations.  Just come what may and keep our fingers crossed that we could find some good places to camp.  Here's our new digs in our first campsite of the trip :

(Click for enlarged views.)

I know!  Can you really call that camping?  Why, yes you can.  We've camped with nothing more than sleeping bags on the ground and the stars overhead.  We've camped in tents, vans, and trailers.  At our age and with two Golden Retrievers, this is the best kind of camping yet!

There are two slide outs, so it's very roomy.  Looks long, but it's surprisingly easy to maneuver, and it's actually about 12' shorter than our truck and trailer combo.  It doesn't bend in the middle and it's super easy to back into a space (a rear camera helps).  No hitching up.  We just load up and drive away.  I can't say enough about how awesome it is.

Our first stop wasn't too awfully far from home.  We stayed two nights at Lake Lomolo's brand new KOA campground.  They were very relaxed about the dogs, and there was lots of space to run free and do what Wally and LuLu love best.

Awesome views.  Unfortunately, the cloud in the photo below was partly smoke:

On the road again...  We've traveled most roads in Oregon, but I don't remember Hwy 140.  It was pretty and very rural, isolated.  We stopped here for lunch.

Love that we can fire up the generator for a cup of coffee, relax in the shade...

We met another traveler there:

We spent the night at a plain old RV park before we crossed into Oregon's desert country the next day.  I'll wait till next Saturday for the rest of the trip, but here's LuLu investigating a desert find:

It's been a great summer for us.  I hope your's is the same.  One doesn't have to travel far to enjoy nature, but it's been fun getting out there.  See you again soon!

  5. Wonderful pictures as always, and congratulations on the new digs. Good to hear that your camping life has become easier in comparison to the last rig. Enjoy every minute. I love the picture of the little cutie posed on the tree stump! She looks like she would be more than happy to join your tribe and travel down the road in style.

  8. Love your motorhome- how sweet it is! I believe sometimes road trips should have no end destination, just stop and go where you please and enjoy natures surroundings. I'm so happy for you and Rich to be able to do some travelling and of course with Wally and Lulu too. Great picture of the two of them on the bed. Gorgeous scenery pictures Leslie, can't wait to see the rest of your trip. Thanks so much for sharing. Just got home from work, working on a huge project so last week and the next 2 weeks we are working 12 hour days, with Sundays off! Doesn't leave time for doing much of anything, but it's only for a short time. Have a wonderful day. Hugs,

  9. Wow! The motorhome is awesome. That is the way to camp. All the luxuries of home. Some beautiful scenery except for the smoke part. So many terrible fires all across the West. I hope they stay away from you.

  10. Yes the older I get the more I appreciate the nicer accommodations, in the middle of the night it is a little harder to get this body up off the ground :) Looks fabulous and Wally and Lulu look like they are enjoying it too :)
If you keep sharing these trips we are going to have to put Oregon on our list of state to visit soon :) Although we would need a bit more time to drive out there. Lulu found a very old surprise didn't she, oh my..

  11. Nice motorhome! I'm sure it's more convenient than a trailer. Great that you are enjoying it so much already. I would just like to get out somewhere, but doubt that's going to happen. Next week we begin a 10 day stay in Hillsboro being grandparents and helping our DIL before and after her workday.

  17. Oh how fun!! I agree the older we get the more we have to take the 'easy' way and the motorhome is a perfect home for the doggies!! Love all the scenery and the palces you are going, how nice that you are exploring your own state.Hey maybe someday you will come to Michigan!! We normally take Mack and our 4 cats to our lake home, 5 1/2 hour trip but so worth it...we just got home yesterday and this time no pets...poor Mack, I think he was mistreated where we boarded him...another story...anyhow I love seeing all these pictures and can't wait to see more!!
