Sunny Days Make Happy Pups and Pretty Flowers

Don’t they look cozy?  I always thought Wally and LuLu looked nice with yellow.  The flowers behind them are Million Bells, a new favorite.  They bloom profusely and never need trimming or deadheading.  I’ll be planting more next year.

I tried my best to get some good landscape shots of the garden, but for one reason or another they didn’t turn out well.  I always love this view of the deck, though, where I’m surrounded by color and I can change it up every year depending upon what I plant in the pots.  I plant more every year and spread them around the garden.  We have quite a deer problem and I’ve grown weary of sacrificing herbaceous perennials to their appetites.  At least the annuals grow right back, but it’s still aggravating when the deer stroll right up to the deck and nip the blooms off the geraniums (which they especially love).

Here you can see a little more of the new yellow on the house.  Rich is on the home stretch this week.  It doesn’t seem like it should take so long, but with two coats of primer and two coats of color it’s like painting the house four times.  And all with a brush and roller.  We can’t use a sprayer here because of the wind.  Honestly, if Rich doesn’t do another single chore this summer I’ll be okay with that.

Have yourself a beautiful day!  We’ll visit again soon, I hope.

  5. I love looking at your gardens. It's exactly the way I want my house to look with all the explosions of color all around and so many different gorgeous plants. I'm working on it. The house looks fabulous with the yellow and all the pretty plants and then of course there is Wally and Lulu to dress it all up fine! They are gorgeous too and I love seeing their happy smiling faces each week.

Your photos would probably increase the sales of the magazine, Better Homes, Gardens and Goldens. They are spectacular! The colours are glorious; the pups looks like they are enjoying themselves immensely and your house is coming along beautifully.

  7. Beautiful gardens and goldens...I hear you about the deer problem, but I planted bee balm around and they don't like it and seem to stay away in the summer, but they sure rummage around in it in the winter months...they especially love my tulips and lilies!! I visited "Joans Gardens" yesterday, that is the name of her blog too, and wish I had taken pictures, it was beautiful all around her house too...I just love summer, thanks for sharing!!

  12. Wow sure sounds like a lot of work but it looks great, I can't even get the energy to get out there and paint the shed. Wow I am surprised the deer come up to the deck with your dogs so close. Those flowers do look beautiful and no dead heading sounds great!

  19. Leslie, you'd never know you have a deer problem. Your gardens are gorgeous! We too have a deer problem. We buy plants that the garden center says are deer resistant. I wish someone would teach the deer to read those tags on plants! They seem to eat many of the plants that we're told they won't eat. Your dogs look so sweet in the sun. I love warm summer days and the drowsy feeling the sun gives. It makes us slow down and focus on resting. Thanks for the rays of sunlight today.

  22. What a beautiful garden of color. Wow you must live close to woods then if deer just waltz right into your yard and eat the flowers. Wally & Lulu look so peaceful there.
