Peaceful Garden (Till the Jays Arrived)

The jays arrived with a flourish on July 18.  They didn't stay long, but they'll be back.  We always have jays in the summer.  I don't know about all jays, but these Stellar's Jays are a noisy bunch.  They sure raised a ruckus while they were here.

Doves are much quieter and gentler.  See him there in the bird bath?  I highly recommend clicking to see all photos enlarged in a light box.

Meanwhile, in the rest of the garden...  Hydrangea:

Digiplexis:

Daylily and Coreopsis:

Veronica and Wallflower:

Our temperatures have been staying right around 70, so you know where I've been -- right out there in the garden.  Have a beautiful day!

  1. Wow, Leslie, your own personal paradise in your backyard, I'm pea green with envy! Everything is so incredibly beautiful, I know where I'd be if I was there, in that gorgeous garden with a cup of coffee taking in God's nature. I would love to have your temps, we're so hot here in Tampa, as well as very humid. Our gardens are sapped of energy due to the hot temps. Enjoy your paradise, I know you and your husband have worked very hard to create your fabulous oasis!

  3. Leslie, what a gorgeous garden you have! We have deer around here so we're very limited as to what we can plant. So my screened in porch is my garden of pretty flowers and my peaceful place. Love seeing your kid pictures and your flowers.

  5. Your garden is as beautiful as any garden I have ever seen anywhere ! I can just feel how peaceful and relaxed you would feel sitting out there among all those beautiful, beautiful plants. Especially with your fur babies to keep you company . I would spend all my time outside too! Unfortunately it is so hot and so humid here that the heat index has been running between 110° and 113° all week . Even at 10 o'clock at night it is still a bout 104° ....yuk!! Can we all come and live with you ? Ha ha

  6. I say a prayer for you that God has given you the time and peace to enjoy what you have created with your husband. What a beautiful place. I am so glad you are retired now to enjoy the fruits of your labor. And to have such well behaved dogs. I still laugh when I think of you and your husband telling them that they have brought such beautiful sticks to you.

  10. Leslie your garden is beautiful! And your flowers - a gardener's dream! I'd be outside too with those wonderful temperatures. One thing it is in Charleston is HOT! Very different than desert hot. It's been busy at our house this past week too. We had a patio and walk way done from stamped concrete. What an interesting process that is. We are letting the nice young couple who own the company double dig the little garden we'll have and add some soil amendments for us before we start planting. When we get a little further along I'll put up photo's on my blog. Right now we're still a little barren. While we're working on our garden I'll look at the end results from your hard work and *sigh* It's beautiful! Good work you two - and Wally and Lulu too (she smiles).

  12. I so enjoyed looking at your great pictures - I so envy your cool temps. It is almost 100 here today with no relief in sight. Thank goodness we still have our electric. Are those birds a cousin to our blue jays? I know our blue jays make a racket!

  13. Are these real? LOL I showed my husband because our blue jays look similar, but are larger and have lots of grey tones. The are incredibly beautiful, and definitely look like they are squawkingly vocal! Your garden is truly magical with the deepest colors Nature produces! How old are W and L now? Thanks for sharing glimpses into your dear home and daily life. Love, de

  17. How I wish we could grow flowers like this Leslie.... but the 100 degree heat just wouldn't handle it. Love the hydrangeas... wow! Such a deep deep purple. Those stellar jays blue color is awesome and the one looks like he was quacking as you took the photo. hee hee We have doves and quail all the time here. A quiet set of birds with the softer noises I agree. Fabulous flowers you green thumb girlie! ;-)
