Is it Dinner Time Yet?

Granted, it’s been a little busy around the Miller residence lately, but could we possibly forget to feed these guys?  They sure know when it’s dinner time, and LuLu knows exactly how cute we think this is.

LuLuDishJune2013

With their evening meal they each get a dollop or two of canned food with their dry.  They think it’s just the most delicious treat.  Wally always waits right here while it’s being dished up.  He can barely contain himself.

We all wish you the best Saturday fuzzies a day can bring.  See you again soon!

I Love Color

When the flowers bloom my heart is happy.

IMG_4698

I smile at the warmth of sunshine in a pot.

IMG_4700

I’m charmed by the sweetness of a delicate pink.

IMG_4691

A vibrant red wakes up my senses.

And, of course, everything looks better with a little gold.

Have yourself a wonderful day!

A Yellow Sneak Peek

It’s not happening real fast, but the house is getting painted.  Behind LuLu you can see the first coat of yellow on the south side of the house.  It will look better with a second coat.  The chartreuse Lady’s Mantle along the path is not a very complimentary color with the yellow, but it will be backed soon enough by a sizeable hydrangea in a pinkish blue.  Unfortunately the young hydrangea has taken a beating with Wally and LuLu crowding around the base of the ladder.  It lost a branch the other day, tsk, tsk.  Just when this bed was starting to look a little better, and I had hopes that my white Lily of the Nile would bloom again. . .

Rich is being as careful as possible with the garden.  He pulled the honeysuckle away from the house so he could paint behind it, and here he’s tying it back up again.  This photo shows the yellow with a second coat.  In some lights the color looks brighter, but this was an overcast day.  I like this shade and I feel a little less nervous about it now.  I think I’m going to love our yellow house.

My retired Rembrandt doesn’t seem to be in a hurry.  He’s taking his time and I’m not concerned.  He stops for lunch with me and has dinner on the table when I come home from work.  He also does a little housework, runs errands, cares for the lawn, washes the cars, and takes the dogs out for exercise.  What a guy!  Gee, Father’s Day is coming up.  He probably deserves a break, doesn’t he?

I hope this day finds you well and happy.  I’m looking forward to the upcoming weekend.  Nothing special, just a little extra time at my favorite place on earth – home.  See you soon!

Painting Begins

When I came home for lunch on Friday I found Rich on the ladder,  the house undergoing the change from earth tones to bright yellow and white.

And this is what was going on under the ladder.

DogsUnderLadderJune2013

Faithful Wally and LuLu, staying as close as possible.  We all had lunch on the deck and then it was back to our respective jobs.  It’s going to be a gardening and painting kind of weekend.  I hope I’ll have more progress to show you soon, but painting the eaves is a painstakingly slow process, and all will require two coats.  I’ll pop in again soon.  Enjoy your weekend!

Oh, Hi!

After days and days of rain, we finally have some sun to bring the blooms back to the flowers and let us resume the business of enjoying the outdoors.  Here, Wally and LuLu are pausing mid-play to send a happy hello to all of you.

Okay, back to play, now . . .

WallyLuLuBallMay2013

There are busy days ahead with picking up the gardening where I left off, and Rich will begin painting the house soon.  It’s getting a bath and some primer in spots, and then a brand new color.  I’ve always wanted a yellow house with white trim, so that’s going to happen this summer.  I’m a little nervous about the change, but I think it will be pretty and cheerful, and change is good, right?  I’ll keep you up to date on the developments.  Enjoy your weekend!

This and That

Wally and LuLu got a new pick up and they wanted to show you how happy they are with it.  They love riding in the back seat.

WallyLuLuTruckMay2013

A canopy is on order and they can’t ride in the bed of the truck until it’s in place, but they’re happy with this arrangement for now.

LuLuTruckMay2013

I’ve been busy planting annuals in pots.  Actually, they’ve grown quite a bit since these photos were taken on the 11th.  It won’t be long until everything is lush and full.

GardenCornerMay2013

The bright sun washes out the color a little, but you get the idea.

GardenCosmosMay2013

The white blooms are on a Leather Leaf Viburnum.  It’s a bush that thinks it’s a tree.

GardenViburnumMay2013

Here’s Rich and Wally mowing a new patch of lawn.  We removed a flower bed so Wally and LuLu could have more room to romp.  The plants worth saving were relocated.  More lawn here, but more flowers concentrated elsewhere.

RichWallyMowMay2013

It’s been a busy spring, as springs tend to be.  More flowers come home with me weekly.  I’m sure I can fit them in somewhere. . .  Have a happy day!

Eighty Degrees and Barely a Breeze

Woohoo!  We’re going to the beach!

BeachHappyLuLu

Actually, we were going to the bay, but it’s all the same to Wally and LuLu.  We always have this spot to ourselves since everyone else is riding the dunes or playing in the waves at the real beach.  There’s plenty to play with here, though.

Wally’s waiting for us to catch up so we can play under the old trestle.

Rich has treats.

Guess where they are.

LuLu got the first one.

But, don’t worry, Wally got his, too.  That’s him with his head down the hole.

Back in the sunshine.  LuLu’s got her bark face on again.  She spotted a lone fisherman crossing the trestle.

A good time was had by all.  I’m so happy to see spring!  Have a great day!

Hello!

There’s something about this picture that I think is so darn cute.  I had just popped around to the back gate to see what the rest of the family was up to, and it took Wally and LuLu a minute to realize it was me approaching.  Wally’s checking me out and LuLu's at the tail end of a bark.  I just love the way they look.  I love them!  So soft.  So friendly and happy and lovable.  So many reasons to smile.

IMG_1517

I hope you find many reasons to be happy today, and if you weren’t smiling before, my one wish at this moment is that you’re smiling now.  Wally and LuLu would be so pleased!  Have a great day!

Squinty Eyed in the Sun

Love those sunny days to hang out all squinty eyed on the deck, just soaking it in after the long winter.

IMG_1484

I can’t see a thing, but it sure feels good.

IMG_1479

That’s last year’s Bacopa beyond Wally, off to a good start without any help from me.

IMG_1480

It looks like we’re in for a stretch of good weather and I’m thinking now’s the time to get some flower shopping done and pots planted.  I’m so looking forward to seeing the garden in full bloom again!  I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Just Enjoying an Early Spring Day

Hi, all!  Doesn’t our big Wally look like a puppy in this photo?

IMG_1420

He’s our action figure.

IMG_1421

LuLu finds him very entertaining.

IMG_1422

Love how this ribbon of grass clings to his ear.

IMG_1424
Guess who’s got the treats?

IMG_1440

A lot of play and exercise and happy time keeps us all young.  Wishing you a lot of happy time this weekend.  Take care!
