Celebrating the Memorial Day Weekend

Here in the US, many of us will be enjoying the Memorial Day weekend.  Some folks have to work right on through it, but I’m fortunate to be one who will revel in the extra day to spend as I please.  This picture of Wally pretty much expresses how I feel about that.

I don’t forget the reason for this holiday, though.  In recent weeks a few of my friends and acquaintances have suffered tragic and premature losses of loved ones.  They’re still reeling from their respective blows and hurting acutely.  I do know the feeling.  I’ve lost both my parents, a sister, and a few friends.  As the years pass the losses accumulate.  You’d think you’d become practiced at dealing with the pain, but as each person is unique, so is the pain that comes with their passing.  I have learned, however, that you come to the point where you can smile upon their memory and celebrate their life.  This weekend I’ll celebrate.  I hope you are able to, as well.  With much love…

  4. Gorgeous picture. Well stated sentiments. It is hard to lose those we love, but also great to know that we'll see them again some day. Enjoy the weekend. Great to have that extra day. It's good for us to have that day of remembrance for all those who have served and are serving today.

Very touching post. Those of us who have lost loved ones can feel your message deep in our hearts. Hope your Memorial Day is exactly what you want it to be.

Wally doesn't speak English words, but he is an outstanding communicator.

  11. Well said, Leslie. I'm sorry for your losses but happy you can honor and celebrate the memories of your loved ones.
At the tender age of 57, (lol) I've lost more than I'd like to count including, both parents, both in-laws and my kid sister when she was only 50 yrs old.
I like your way of thinking, and this will surely help me through this weekend as I reflect upon their memories as well as others.
Enjoy your weekend with your family and those beautiful pups.

  12. Oh Wally you have the right idea, Celebrate Life, it is truly precious.
Your post was very well stated. Sunday my dad would have turned 92 had he lived. I will be taking flowers out to the Cemetery for that and then again on Monday to a few other family members graves. Thanks for your thoughts.

  13. Tomorrow I will be going to Sunset Memorial Cemetery to visit 14 family members including both sets of grandparents, parents, brother, sister and in-laws. I will be laden with at least 2 Big Buckets of flowers that I will arrange with love on their grave sites. I treasure this time with family to remember the special memories. Hopefully we all can think of the good times with a smile.

Happy Memorial Day Leslie and Rich ....TFS your story too Leslie.

  16. Your words hit home for anyone who has lost someone. The pain of loss and missing them can still hurt a long time after their passing and when you least expect it. It's a true saying though, time is a healer and our memories are the treasure left to us when we loose them. It's lovely to have a special day to remember. Thanks for a beautiful post.
